The Blogosphere Collectively Yawns at BizNicheMedia

The reaction to our competition was, unsurprisingly, unsuprising. We got a bit of love, we got a bit of hate, and mainly we got indifference.

The truth is, most people are on to us.

For instance, I love this guy: the title of his post about us is "A Bullsh*t Linkbaiting Contest"--on his v7ndotcom elursrebmem contest blog. Does anyone else see the irony here?

I would suggest that they write an article about giving away a $1000 prize for giving their lazy asses an idea, but since that’s what they’re already doing, I’m sure that my suggestion would be disqualified. It looks like their traffic has already spkied, because of this.

Which is of course true: the contest itself was link bait, and it got us about 20 links so far -- that's $50 a link, not bad if you ask me.

But then I lost respect for his piercing intelligence when he poses this question:

Why would somebody who’s “lazy and uncreative” want to start a blog, anyway?

Umm, I'll give you a hint dude. It's a six figure word that begins in a $ and ends in a $.

I also enjoyed Jill Whalen's reaction at the Threadwatch thread:

Lovely, link bait to get people to link to a pile of fake blogs on Debt Consolidation, etc? Please. What is the world coming to? Stuff like that just sucks.

To which I replied:

> a pile of fake blogs on Debt Consolidation

Guys, should that be my network's tagline?

Unfortunately, she didn't submit her idea on the official competition page, so she isn't eligable to win the $500. And of course, we can't use that tagline, since it is her intellectual property.

In any case, I couldn't be happier: I'm having fun with this, and yeah we got some pretty good ideas (although I haven't seen a knock-my-socks-off idea yet). Keep 'em coming, there's still 6 days left!

So, if I use Jill's idea and submit on the official competition page do I still get the prize if it's chosen? (Don't worry Jill, if I win I'll split the money with you.)

Hey, at least it's a fake blog and not a splog. But really, what *IS* the difference between a fake blog and a real blog anyway?

>>"although I haven't seen a knock-my-socks-off idea yet"

And to be honest, you probably won't.

If someone does have that kind of idea, the chances are that they're not going to tell the world about it without giving it a go first themselves.

Still, the comp itself is bringing 'em in.

you already link baited people with the contest and offering such a large sum. keep doing more stuff like that ;)

You can rest assured the best entry will come in last. And it will be mine. I have to find a way to pay for my contest and make a profit on it.

Cowboy,

OK, but it better be snarky.

Hey! I never claimed to have "piercing intelligence", I was just asking a question, though. You said yourself that you guys are too “lazy and uncreative” to think of good ideas.

What kind of "six figure word" starts and ends with dollar signs, though? ($plog$?) I guess I'll lose your respect again, by asking that, though.

BTW: The irony was intended.

Tom,

'$plog$?' made me laugh out loud. Thanks for commenting :-)

$50 a link is not bad ? Hey, I run a few sites, I'll be glad to charge you, not $50, not $45, but $40 for each links on my sites ! Sounds ok ? :)

Hah. I can beat that. everyone who donates $5 to my journalism course fund (found on my site http://keithneilson.co.uk ) will get a link and a write up. This includes the coveted UCRated blog button which they may then display with pride upon their blog. You don't even have to link to me if you don't want to.

That was real funny Andy.
