Linkbuilding with Contests: How to Give Money Away, and End Up With More Than You Started With

If you keep track of the recent happenings on the web, you will definitely notice many contests launched by various websites. They are intended to raise the curiosity among the readers. These websites spend little, but yield more by adopting a few simple tricks. The best part is that the participants don't lose anything, instead they gain a little or more.

I recently came across the "Dog Image Contest" launched by The Dog Guide. They have some good news for the dog lovers. If you want to show off your dog, then just click some pictures and send those to The Dog Guide by email. Since this is a popular dog site, your dog may find favor with many readers across the globe. Isn't it interesting?

Hold on! We are not finished yet. If you have the cutest dog, then you may get some prizes too. Since this is a contest, they have announced the prize money of $30, $20 and $10 for the top three slots. Even if you don't win the prize, it will be a win-win situation for you.

The main goal of such contests are to create some user generated content and some free buzz about their product or website without spending much. We had launched a similar contest called "BizNicheMedia Link Bait Contest" in January 2006. You will be surprised to know that we are still receiving comments and emails in this regard and a good number of visitors too.

Yesterday, one of my friends forwarded the link of another contest called Blogger Choice Awards. Here you can nominate your favorite blog and vote and comment on other blogs too. There are 36 categories that reminds me of Oscar Awards. It does not matter whether your blog makes the cut or not. You will still get some exposure on the blogosphere.

Such contests not only increase the popularity of the host sites, but also prove helpful for the participants in more than one way. And if you are host, you should not mind giving some money to get more than what you started with.
